You Are Here
Royal Exchange Theatre (2008)
A geography classroom: maps on the walls, a hanging globe, a battered desk… YOU ARE HERE invited visitors to lift the lid and look inside “worlds you never dreamt were there”. The central element of the installation was a “classroom” of old school desks, created by 13 groups and 14 individuals. Each desk appeared an ordinary, unremarkable old desk. However, once the lid was lifted, the extraordinary and unexpected was revealed. We discovered journeys, pathways, destinations on and off the beaten track, topographies of memory, landscapes of dreams and maps of the imagination…
I worked as part of a core team of five from the Participation team at the Royal Exchange Theatre to deliver this exhibition with a difference, which included contributions from 220 adults, young people and artists.
